This is the classical
Moon-to-Moon (Ashtakoot) fit only. A real match reads both people's full charts together, including the 7th house, Venus and Mangal dosha. When you have a specific person in mind, use the
Kundali Matching tool.
How nakshatra compatibility works
Classical Vedic matchmaking, Ashtakoot or Guna Milan, compares two Moons across eight kootas worth 36 points in all: Varna (1), Vashya (2), Tara (3), Yoni (4), Graha Maitri (5), Gana (6), Bhakoot (7) and Nadi (8). Every one of them is read from the two Moons' nakshatras and signs.
That means your own Moon decides how well every other nakshatra fits yours. This tool scores all 108 nakshatra-padas against your Moon and ranks them, using the same scorer as our Kundali Matching tool.
Reading the score
The bands are the usual ones: 32–36 excellent, 25–31 good, 18–24 average, and below 18 below average. A pair marked Nadi dosha or Bhakoot dosha scores zero in that koota. Classical texts list exceptions that can cancel these, so treat them as points to check in a full match.
Frequently asked questions
Which nakshatra is most compatible with mine?
Choose your Moon nakshatra and pada, and whether you are looking for a bride or a groom. The tool scores every nakshatra-pada against yours with the classical Ashtakoot method and lists them from the highest score out of 36 to the lowest.
Why does it ask whether I am looking for a bride or a groom?
Ashtakoot is read from the bride's Moon to the groom's. Some kootas, such as Tara, Gana, Varna and Yoni, score differently depending on which side each person is on, so the same two nakshatras can score differently the other way round.
Why does the pada matter?
Nine nakshatras cross from one Moon sign into the next. The sign changes four of the eight kootas (Varna, Vashya, Graha Maitri and Bhakoot), so a nakshatra can score differently in its early and late padas. That is why some nakshatras appear twice in the list.
Is a high score enough to decide a marriage?
No. This is the classical Moon-to-Moon fit only. A proper match reads both people's full charts together, including the 7th house, Venus and Mangal dosha, which the
Kundali Matching tool covers.
What do Nadi dosha and Bhakoot dosha mean here?
They mark pairs where the Nadi koota (8 points) or the Bhakoot koota (7 points) scores zero. Classical texts list exceptions that can cancel them, so they are a point to look at in the full match, not a verdict on their own.
